Georgia Ophthalmologists has provided the most comprehensive eye care services available in Northeast Georgia since 2011.

With three convenient office locations in Covington, Athens, and Jackson, we cover everything from routine eye exams to the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of eye health problems, including retinal disorders, glaucoma and dry eye. Our surgical services include LASIK, cataract removal, correction of common eyelid disorders such as drooping or sagging eyelids, and pterygium removal.

Unlike most eye care professionals, Georgia Ophthalmologists performs many surgical procedures in our own in-house outpatient surgery center, located in our Covington office, thereby eliminating the inconvenience and added expense of a hospital visit. (LASIK surgeries are performed in our Athens office.) Our state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center is accredited by The Joint Commission.

We also offer a full-service optical shop in both our Covington and Jackson locations, with a broad range of styles and brands priced to fit any budget. We cut, edge and assemble our glasses onsite in our Covington lab, and take pride in our craftsmanship and commitment to quality. We also specialize in the fitting of contact lenses at our Covington and Jackson locations.

Our Procedure Center

We, at Georgia Ophthalmologists, perform surgical procedures at our very own in-house ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in Covington. This allows us to eliminate the need for hospital-based surgery.

The surgery center was originally established in 1988, which at the time, made it one of only two free-standing surgery centers in the state. The foundation and mission of our practice that was established upon conception still remains strong today. That is, to offer the most advanced technology in an stress-free and comfortable setting. Using the aid of the Catalys Femtosecond Laser and ORA intraoperative aderrometry, our procedure center and highly trained professionals are able to deliver superior visual outcomes vision for life.

Jose Bigles-Geigel, M.D.

Dr. Jose Bigles-Geigel graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science in biological science. He then graduated from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, and completed his medical training in ophthalmology at the renowned Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Bigles is a fellowship-trained refractive surgeon who, through his work at the New Jersey Eye Center, has perfected the Blade-free Lasik Technique.

In 2009, Dr. Bigles brought his ophthalmology skills to Covington, where he treated a wide variety of ophthalmic disorders, and worked to restore vision through cataract and Lasik correction. In December 2011, Dr. Bigles purchased Pulliam Eye Group, fulfilling his life-long goal of opening his own practice, and introduced Georgia Ophthalmologists to the metro Atlanta community. With the acquisition of Blue Laser Group in 2018, he expanded his practice with the addition of Lasik services to his already extensive program of vision care, opening Bigles Laser Vision with an office in Athens.

Dr. Bigles is fluent in Spanish and English, and served as an interpreter for the Grady Health System. He has held several leadership positions in the Covington community, and worked as youth minister with his local church. Dr. Bigles believes in the importance of community and values our senior citizens. He actively participates in local health fairs offering complimentary vision screenings, and makes regular rotations at local nursing homes to assist residents who are unable to travel for care.

He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Outside of the office, Dr. Bigles enjoys spending time with his wife and four children and is an avid baseball fan. He and his family are active in community Little League, and have sponsored both local baseball, soccer and cheerleader organizations. He enjoys any activity where he can spend time with his family outdoors.

Dr. Brenda Rosado-Gonzalez

Originally from Puerto Rico, she has 27 years of experience in the ophthalmology field. Certified Optometrist and specializes in prevention, diagnosis and medical treatment of most ocular pathologies. Including Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Diabetes as well as glasses and contact lens fittings.

Dr. Wesley Pace, DO

Dr. Wesley Pace is a Jackson, GA native and graduated from University of West Georgia with a Batchelor’s of Science in biological science. He then Graduated from the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine completing his training in ophthalmology at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in New York, where he served as chief resident. He is currently serving as an associate fellow in Refractive Surgery with Dr. Bigles to provide world class care to the growing Georgia Ophthalmologists community.
Dr. Pace has been active in charitable organizations including the Lion’s Club for the blind and hearing impaired serving as a camp counsellor to provide and cultivate meaningful life experiences and friendships for visually impaired children; In addition to advocating for community wellness and disease prevention through hospital fairs, blood drives and volunteer clinics.
He is Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Osteopathic Association, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology/Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Pace enjoys spending time with family and friends playing music, video games and enjoying nature.

Dr. Kelly Cleary, OD

Dr. Kelly Cleary, a native of Covington, GA, is a dedicated optometrist with a passion for providing comprehensive eye care to her patients.

Dr. Cleary completed her secondary education at Piedmont Academy in Monticello, GA, and went on to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at the esteemed University of Georgia. Her academic journey continued as she earned her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2017.

With over six years of experience in the field, Dr. Cleary has been committed to delivering exceptional eye care to patients in Albany, GA. Her expertise lies in prescribing glasses and contact lenses to cater to her patients’ visual needs, managing ocular diseases, and collaborating with ophthalmologists to co-manage surgical care. Dr. Cleary is known for her compassionate approach and her dedication to ensuring the best possible outcomes for her patients.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Cleary cherishes her role as a wife and a mother. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Ben Cleary, who works for Chick-fil-A, and together they are proud parents to four children. The Cleary family takes pleasure in spending quality time outdoors, engaging in activities such as fishing, and wholeheartedly supports the University of Georgia Bulldogs every football season.

Dr. Cleary feels incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to return to her hometown and provide exceptional eye care to the people of Covington, Jackson, and the surrounding areas. She is thrilled to contribute to the well-being of her community and looks forward to establishing lasting relationships with her patients.

Robert L. Elwell, OD

Dr. Elwell is a graduate of the University of Alabama/Birmingham School of Optometry in 1976. He received his BS from Virginia Tech in 1969 and spent two and a half years in the U.S. Air Force. He has been in private practice Optometry since 1976 and is a consultant in Low Vision to the Center for the Visually Impaired in Atlanta since 1977. He has been working with Dr. Barber since 1998 and currently owns a private practice in Monticello, Georgia.
